The British Virgin Islands are a group of about 50 islands in the West Indies, only 16 of which are inhabited. They are located in the Caribbean Sea, east of the U.S. Virgin Islands. The main island, Tortola, is separated from St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands by only 2.3 kilometers. To the east, the island of Virgin Gorda lies 127 km west-northwest of the western tip of the island of Anguilla.
Road Town, the capital of the British Virgin Islands, is located on the island of Tortola.
