Jamaica is an island nation in the Caribbean Sea, covering an area of 10,990 km². As the third-largest island in the Greater Antilles and the Caribbean after Cuba and Hispaniola, it is located approximately 145 km south of Cuba and 191 km west of Hispaniola. With nearly three million inhabitants, it is the fourth most populous country in the Caribbean. Kingston is its capital and largest city.

It has been an independent sovereign state since 1962 and is part of the West Indies. It is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy and a Commonwealth realm, with Charles III as its sovereign.

Jamaica’s economy relies heavily on tourism, with an average of 4.3 million visitors per year. Due to significant emigration since the 1960s, there is a large Jamaican diaspora, particularly in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The population is predominantly of Sub-Saharan African descent, with significant European, Chinese, Indo-Jamaican, and mixed-race minorities.

Despite its modest size, Jamaica exerts considerable global cultural influence. It is the birthplace of the Rastafarian movement and reggae music, as well as related genres such as ska, dub, and dancehall. It also excels in sports, particularly in track and field, cricket, and sprinting.
