Mexico, officially and in full the United Mexican States, is a country located in the southern part of North America. Bordered to the east-southeast by Guatemala and Belize, and to the north-northwest by the United States of America, it is bordered to the east by the Gulf of Mexico, to the east-southeast by the Caribbean Sea, to the southwest by the Pacific Ocean, and to the west-northwest by the Gulf of California. It ranks fourteenth in the world in terms of land area, covering nearly two million square kilometers.

Mexico is one of the world’s seventeen megadiverse countries (it is home to 10 to 12% of global biodiversity and includes more than twelve thousand endemic species), and it has 33 cultural or natural sites listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.
