
Saint Kitts and Nevis, and formally as the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, is a country located in the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean Sea, comprising the islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis, which are united as a federation. With an area of 261 km², Saint Kitts and Nevis is the smallest country in the Americas.
The capital and seat of government is Basseterre on the island of Saint Kitts. Nevis is located about 3 km southeast of Saint Kitts, separated by a shallow channel called The Narrows. Basseterre is located 78 km northwest of Brades, the de facto capital of Montserrat, and 95 km west-northwest of Saint John’s, the capital of Antigua and Barbuda.
Saint Kitts and Nevis was among the first Caribbean islands to be colonized by Europeans. Saint Kitts was home to the first British and French colonies in the Caribbean.
Saint Kitts and Nevis has been a member of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA) since December 14, 2014.
