Saint Lucia (in Saint Lucian Creole: Sent-Lisi; in Kalinago: Iouanalao) is an island nation in the Caribbean.
Located in the Caribbean Sea, more than a hundred kilometers west of the western edge of the Atlantic Ocean, Saint Lucia is part of the Windward Islands; it lies between the islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to the south, Barbados to the southeast, and Martinique to the north. It has an area of 620 km² and an estimated population of 187,768. Its capital and largest city is Castries.
Named after Lucy of Syracuse, Saint Lucia is the only country in the world named after a woman.
