
Saint Martin (in Dutch: Sint Maarten) is an island in the Lesser Antilles located in the northeastern Caribbean Sea. It lies 250 km north of Guadeloupe and 240 km east of Puerto Rico. With an area of 95.83 km², it has a population of 75,000. It is divided between two countries by a 10-km border separating:
the French part located in the north of the island, an overseas collectivity since 2007 with a population of 31,496 in 2022;
the Dutch part, located in the south of the island, an autonomous state of the Kingdom of the Netherlands since October 10, 2010, with a population of 42,139 in 2022.
