The Bahamas, officially known as the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, is an English-speaking country and a Commonwealth realm located southeast of Florida.

The Bahamas archipelago comprises approximately 700 islands and islets in the Lucayan Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean, northeast of Cuba and northwest of Hispaniola and the Turks and Caicos Islands, the latter being a British Overseas Territory.

Its capital is Nassau, located on the island of New Providence. Its inhabitants are known as Bahamians. Its HDI and GDP make it one of the most developed countries in the Caribbean.
