Belize is a Commonwealth realm (a unitary constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of government) located in Central America, southeast of Mexico and northeast of Guatemala.

The country’s capital is Belmopan, and its currency is the Belizean dollar. National Day is celebrated on September 21 to commemorate the country’s independence from the United Kingdom in 1981.

Its official language is English, but Spanish, Kriol (Creole), Maya, and Garifuna are also spoken. 58% of the Belizean population is Catholic and 34% is Protestant.
